Imagine yourself awakening to bird song. You open the door of your luxurious tent, step out on the lovely terrace to glance at the spectacular mountain range, fertile green valleys, tea plantations, and clear rivers. A deer fumbles by, a bird of prey flies overhead scanning the ground for its prey. Breathe in the fresh air and pinch yourself ... No you are not dreaming. You are at the Madulkelle Tea and Eco Lodge. An amazingly luxury tented camp in the middle of nature overlooking the UNESCO Knuckles area. The lodge has 18 Deluxe tents with a private terrace. Each tent is luxuriously furnished and has a private bathroom with a shower. The main building of the lodge is decorated like an old colonial tea plantation and houses a restaurant, bar, spa, library and outdoor swimming pool. The restaurant at the lodge only serves produce from its own garden and you can be certain the result is a pure delight. Wellness, gastronomy, relaxation and tranquility are essentials at this hidden gem! You can insert this extension after the fifth day of your Taste of Sri Lanka Tour. You start out from Kandy by private car and drive into the country and towards the mountainside. Only half an hour later, you arrive at the lodge. Check-in is followed by a first exploration of the hotel grounds. Later on today, an introduction to Sri Lankan cuisine has been planned for you. On the program: a visit to the herb garden where you learn about the different spices, their virtues, and culinary use and practice! Under the guidance of a chef, you try your hand at a few of the typically Sri Lankan culinary classics. Obviously, you will be able to taste your dishes. Then it is time for a siesta. Dive in the pool, sip a cocktail, or take a short walk to the Campbell Falls, in other words, relax and enjoy.
Next day, time for a full day's outing in the stunning UNESCO-listed Knuckles nature reserve. The park's entrance is a mere 30 minutes by jeep. From here you continue by foot along the beautiful and hilly trails of the knuckles park. It may feel like you are the only person on earth as the silence is only "disturbed" by the song and cries of the local fauna and the sound of the waterfalls. What better way to appreciate the pristine beauty which surrounds you than by a picnic. After an exciting day, you return to the lodge in the late afternoon.
Indulge in a sweet morning activity before you need to start packing already. Let yourself be pampered at the hotel Spa, just enjoy the views on your private terrace or take a refreshing dip in the pool. You're the boss. By noon you return to Kandy.
