Cancun

Welcome to Cancun airport. Meet & assist and transfer to your hotel. If you fancy a city tour by night, ask the hotel tol call an official taxi.

Calling one from the curbside is strongly dis-advised. From tomorrow you will take over the wheel.

Day 3 - 4

Merida

Today you drive to Merida (approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes). Should you feel like a small detour, the yellow city and Maya site of Izamal is worth a visit.

Tomorrow you have the whole day off to experience the charms of the fishing village and nature reserve of Celestun, 92 km west of Merida on the coast. The inhabitants derive their income from fishing, the cultivation of coconuts and salt extraction. The lagoon itself is a natural reserve where you can observe a wide variety of water birds such as pelicans, pink flamingos, herons, ducks, cormorants, etc.

You do not feel like extra mileage? The city of Merida has a very pleasant feel. Why not explore its city centre?

Day 5 - 6

Campeche

Today you have a small 200 km ahead with two fantastic highlights: the sites of Uxmal & Kabah.

Uxmal, founded around 500 - 600 BC, would, according to the usual legend, owe its splendor to a dwarf who got on well with magic. In one night he shook the Pyramid of the Magician from his sleeve. Nice is that you can and can climb many buildings here. In the small and fine Kabah, the 'Temple of the Masks' and the arch of Kabah are worth seeing. This site is the best preserved witness of the Puuc architecture of the Maya.

Fortunately, tomorrow you have the day to also explore Campeche. This walled, colourful colonial town has been beautifully restored and is also on the UNESCO World Heritage list.

Day 7 - 8

Chicanna

Chicanna is located about 300 km from Campeche in the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve. The archaeological site of Calakmul (a Mayan word for the city of the two adjacent pyramids) contains well-preserved structures of an ancient Maya city and lies deep in the protected tropical forests of the Peten bassin. Indiana Jones, here you come!

Chicanna has many buildings that are spread widely. Some of the facades are richly decorated and well preserved, which makes it possible to discover beautiful examples of the Rio-Bec style. Special is Structure II, whose façade forms a gigantic mask and the gaping mouth as the entrance.

Day 9 - 12

Riviera Maya

The final route will take you to the Riviera Maya for a beach stay. On the way, a stop at the Bacalar lagoon, in Tulum and Playa del Carmen is definitely recommended. You spend 4 nights in Riviera Maya. La Riviera Maya is a coastal area located between Cancun et Tulum.

The jungle, fauna and flora, archaeological sites, deserted beaches, turquoise-colored sea with crystal clear water that turns into pure silver reflections when the moon is out as well as the mystery of ancient Mayan culture are just a few elements that transform the Riviera Maya into a dream destination.
